Indian Eco Documentary

by Risa Dickens

Over a year ago a documentary filmmaker named Jagdish Kulkarni based in Nashik India contacted us here at Indyish. Despite some wild email delays and other technical long-distance difficulties we became friends and he joined Indyish, and sent me 2 of his films to preview. We are very different, but alike in the desire to make our living doing what we love, making art, and hoping for environmental salvation. Jagdish Kulkarni’s films are intense and lyrical. Out of the YCM Open University he produces documentary with a personal quasi-prophetic voice and a spiritualism and furious passion that distorts and expands the documentary genre with ancient Indian wisdom and rhythms.

Here are some stills from his films on Water and the Discovery of God, which have screened at environmental film festivals around Europe and North America.

The films can be viewed online here:

These are part of a 6 story cycle which he is working on completing, so watch for more from this faraway Indyish ally soon!
