I do end up talking with folks on the bus… on the street… in the line at grocery stores. Not to the extent that my mum will jump right in there and mess things up, but enough to make some introverted boyfriends uncomfortable. Artist Steve Lambert takes this mom principle of connection one sweet step further with his I Will Talk With Anyone table, and much thanks to Serah Marie McMahon of Worn Journal for sending along his website to us (in the midst of her madness prepping the next Worn Issue Launch!) with the cute and oddly flattering little note that this practice of setting up a table just to talk seems rather Indyish.
Serah of course talks happily to one and all, and giggling gets the power of poking strangers with questions (I remember stuffing envelopes with her at a temp job in Toronto and she had the whole room of us singing and swapping embarassing memories – when day job becomes art-project-esque, everyone wins!=)
Steve Lambert’s website is at VisitSteve where he provides info and even how to’s on how you can begin Talking With Everyone.
Ah! I’ve wanted to do this for years. My sign was just going to say “FREE CONVERSATION”. This is much better.
