So I seem to only ever find out about the wonders of Google after everyone else has been swearing by it for the past 10 years. I switched over to Gmail after a recommendation from Risa when I started with this website right here and starred emails and enjoyed a far simpler way to email. I have just generally been much happier since then. The sun shines brighter, everywhere I go, children are playing in the streets and the sound of their laughter echoes, life just seems so much better. Or something along those lines… At every Indyish team meet, whenever someone mentions google documents (or “docs”, because it’s more hip, but probably a lot geekier) you can see the twinkle in everyone’s eyes and feel the excitement building. Well last week, I discovered a brand new google utility that has ensued some dancing the streets, singing at the top of my lungs and smiling at strangers on the streets, the my-life-makes-sense-again wonders of the Google Reader! Hellooooooooo beautiful!
I like blogs (surprised?) and keeping up with all the great blogs out there without missing what could possibly a life changing post is close to impossible, but now, thanks to Google Reader, I don’t have to fear missing out. The google reader is linked to your gmail account and is so easy to use, your grand-ma could check up on Indyish every time a new post is added. It also has all the same features as your gmail account; you can star posts and store them to check up on it later. I don’t have time or brain power to check up on all the blogs I like, but in the 2 weeks that I’ve had it, I’ve added 80 blogs that update semi-regularly, and have been able to keep up to date with all my favorite what/who/where and the hahas. I can share some items to others with google readers. I’ve gotten loads of new music from great music blogs like Said the Gramophone and a whole lot of remixes from Palms Out Sounds. I’ve found out through many many music blogs about the new Radiohead contest (Carles of Hipster Runoff is at number 5, vote for him here!). I’ve been kept up to date with photos from streetstyle blogs around the world. Checked up on Style Bubble, one of the cutest fashion blogs ever. I’ve kept a close eye for any updates on the Pop Montreal Website or the Worn blog. Basically, it’s ridiculously practical, so easy to use and highly addictive. Excited yet? Ok, enough talk, now for the Lolcats.
I am a big fan of Google Reader too. I tried other feed readers, but there’s nothing like the Google brand. Am I right?
How about the recommendations section? Have you found anything new that you like through it yet?

I most definetly have! Garance Doré is a street style blog from Paris that has some beautiful portraits and illustrations. http://www.garancedore.fr/ and there is also: http://blogs.lexpress.fr/cafe-mode/ that is interesting and that Garance also contributes to.
Another great one that has been motivating me to follow my resolution to go see more vernissages this summer is The Belgo Report: http://bettinaforget.com/TheBelgoReport/
There’s also Photoshop Disasters that Tessa introduced me to: http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/
Another really good one is a male photography blog called Underneath: http://whatisunderneath.blogspot.com/
There’s also drop me off in Harlem that is just cool animations: http://dropmeoffinharlem.blogspot.com/
Oh man, I have over 150 blogs in my reader right now, but I’d say those are some of my favorites.

another cool thing i found recently is that with google reader you can add a button to your firefox browser that you click to make a note of any site you happen to be on. you can make comments in your note that appear in your reader along with the link, either for you to look at later or as a shared item with your google reader friends.
a bit like del.icio.us but without tags. facebook lets you do this too, sharing links with friends. my browser bookmark folder seems so old school, i never use it anymore, but i also like copying and pasting links into word docs because i’m a packrat.

i added the google reader (which was stressing me out with too much muchness) to one of the tabs in my igoogle homepage, along with feeds from a few sites and the digg application, and now i like it again, bc i can look at it in a controled little window and not feel like i’m swallowed by the rabbit hole of eternal blogness.

i found google alerts was just sending me weird random stuff that wasn’t related to what i wanted, so it felt like spam. how do you format your search words to send what you want?
