Macy Gray just finished her set and the Gotan Project have taken over. Is it alright if I say I’m a little scared to get close to them? Why don’t we say it’s my dedicated blogging that is keeping me away.
I kind of lost track of what’s going on. I wanted to see the Besnard Lakes and We Say Party, You Say Die, but I found myself lobbed in front and centre for Macy Gray… and I couldn’t tear myself away. Unexpected Osheaga moment no. 4: shakin’ my booty and waving my hands when she asked us all to tell her our names. That’s right: I lost myself in the moment, waved my hands and really didnèt care. This was the most theatrical and complete performance I’ve seen at a show in long time. think gold sequined (is that how u spell it) dancers, a silver studded mic stand, costumes, masks, a jump off the stage and slapping hands with the audience. Ms Gray, it’s been too long.
Back up a moment, Miracle Fortress were in fine form, surrounding themselves with those life-sized creature cutouts we’ve all been seeing around the Osheaga campus. Fine form? What the hell does that mean? They wooed us, alright. Woooooed. Like when you woo someone. Do I have it right? Please don’t hurt me, but when I hear them play I can’t help but close my eyes, wave a little back and forth and I swear I can feel the ocean. If you can find a better way to describe that feeling, you can email it to me at tristanbrand@gmail.com . Send me a snarky response and I’ll… blog about you.
Less about being defensive and more about the music…
A little Montreal lore happening right here. Back up a bit further: during my last blog post, Martha Wainright was playing away. I regret not being closer now; there were plenty of Shenanigans to witness. As I was publishing the post, one of the camera folk in the media pit passed Martha a… helping hand. I can’t be sure from here, but help came in the shape of a smoking joint, lit and ready. Rumor has it a talented photographer slash bartender on the main was the one to help. I could be wrong… can we get a witness on this?
The music! What about the music!?!
Yeah. Martha sounded wonderful, shenanigans and all. Wonderful.
I just wish people would stop shoving Dentyne samples in my face, trying to talk me into sliding into their majkeout booth. I’m 31 and I’ve never been kissed. So leave me alone.
Ah, Gotan Project… The beat is pulling me away folks.
Wait, did Pony Up! play with deserving sound? I didn’t make it back in time and couldn’t find out… My hearts go out to you guys. I hope you rocked out…
