How to be an Indyish Contributor

by Risa Dickens

Anyone who submits a few good blog posts to Indyish is invited to become a Contributor. Now that we’ve got some great regular contributors onboard in addition to Artists, I thought I’d put a post together.

As a contributor you can login and draft product or blog posts, adding your own text, tags, links, images, audio and video, but you cannot publish directly on the site without going through an editor. Whenever a Contributor or Artist is drafting a post and wants an editor to take a look, they put the word READY in the title of the post and hit save. Adding READY to the title of your post tells the blog editor that you are ready for her to have a look, that you think it’s ready to go, or that your are ready for help. You can leave notes for the editor right in the post- just make sure the note stands out. Use [[double square brackets for embedded notes to editor]]. When you tell us you’re READY an editor will check your post and either publish it for you, or get back to you on what you’re missing and help you fix it.

We do this process because everything published on Indyish goes through the group blog, and out to RSS subscribers, as well as appearing in category and artist archives. Any changes you make after this (to fix broken links or typos or add sizes or shipping cost) will not be sent out to subscribers. Also, we like to take this time at the beginning to learn from you what is difficult and perhaps could be better about our site, (though we can’t always act on it right away since we’ve got just one programmer) and to teach you what we can about the web and search engine optimization. For example, doing things like tags can make a big difference in whether people and search engines will find your posts. We think it’s worth taking the time to get all this stuff right.
