Arright, the Google blog has a top 5 list today of little known Gmail features. This made me realize what deeply true nerds we are. Yep, every one of these. All the time. (And tons more from Google, check out Elran’s post from some months ago about Google co-op).
As you might know, we run Indyish on some basic network principles. Networks, like everything, have momentum. We thought: maybe an arts network can gather momentum around collaboration.. And if so, maybe the connections will exponentially expand the network’s mutual usefulness and positive creative capacity over time, on the web and off.
The kind of network we aim to be (call it open source if you like) won’t grow as fast, at first, as a network with a strict hierarchy, because it has to communicate more along the way, and find mutually beneficial moves for public opinion to let it grow, it needs to negotiate and openly consider with good will. But it’ll grow, and when it does it’ll be less prone to crisis and collapse. Mistakes or errors at one place in the network won’t be able to cause cascading reactions, because there will be too many links between us, too many independent hubs supporting the network out of self interest and an idea about ‘the public good’. (since my true nerdyness is out of the closet already here’s some sources: Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, Mario Bunge and Harold Innis. )
Yeah! So. This to say.. We use the Gmail features to the utmost and all the Google tools! They are free and if you work with others, exceptionally time saving and pragmatic. This free, enabling whack o’ functionality from-scarily-omnipresent-to-some-Google has helped Indyish build identity, community and momentum. So hifives to team Gmail, and thanks!
You folks make me feel like I’m auditing an amazing, low-commitment, high-return communications class!
Keep up the sharing!
