hot tips for indyish artists re:the indyish launch weekend

by Risa Dickens

Some things to think about:

- if you have work for sale on the site, help us promote the launch events. email folks who make video and folks who like to make stuff generally and tell them about the 24hr CVP, or the Music Video Making (MVM? does everything need an acronym? probably.) you might be surprised who wants to tackle a kit of materials for a night, and who wants to shoot and edit a music video, and all those folks respect fellow makers and want to buy their albums and wear the clothes they make. ok maybe not all of them, but pretty much.

- if you want to sell something on the site, get it up there before the launch! and then link to it from other sites, and when you do, try and use names instead of “here”. this tends to make a more valulable link so this could help raise everybody’s search ranking and the visibility of your indyish store.

-if you have questions about posting, we can email back and forth, or I can talk you through posting over the phone, or you can come over and i can do it with you. this is pretty much always fun, and we love doing it, so we’re going to continue.

-an “insta indyish boutique” will be going on at the Main Hall during our two afternoons, August 5th and 6th, while the 24hr events take off. if you want to have stuff for sale, then those items have to be online. You’ll need to drop them off at 11:30 on Saturday with price tags on and an inventory sheet. There will be a central cash, and folks can use credit or paypal to buy through the site. On cash sales, indyish takes 10% and on web sales it’s the same as usual (2% plus paypal’s 2.5ish).

- don’t forget that we’re having a clothing swap on Saturday afternoon, august6th. everything leftover goes to the Mile End Mission on Bernard, so even if you can’t be there for the swap, you should drop stuff off! get rid of clutter! keep good things in circulation!
