Handsome Furs and Hank and Lily at Green Room pictures

Tuesday nights are usually reserved for late nights at school for yours truly, but last week, I could not bring myself to miss the show at Green Room. I saw Wolf Parade’s Dan Boeckner and his fiancé Alexei Perry’s Handome Furs last summer at club Lambi in front of a much smaller crowd and despite the many technical problems, a stolen drum machine and a broken guitar, I was impressed by how the duo completely refined their sound. Their album Plague Park will be out on May 22nd.

Next up, BC’s Hank Pine and Lily Fawn completely switched the atmosphere and delivered an eerie yet cheerful performance, think story-telling, saws, costumes, antlers and face masks. For the first song, the Winks‘ drummer, Emily, offered some drumming support with Lily Fawn’s playful and delightfully childish voice who sang us a story and warned us not to be afraid and the affair soon turned into a singalong.
