January 31rst: no the buzz wasn’t about a former boy band member’s appearance on our local mega stage (Justin who?), talk was all about the Guided by Voices tribute night at Main Hall. Well, at least for me. While Wolf Parade’s Dan and Hadji, and Secret Choir were forced to cancel, the night held a promise for a mystery guest. The night started with Besnard Lake’s Olga Goreas and her friend Victoria performed 3 songs with guitar, vocals and the trusty ipod.
The World Provider’s Malcolm B. Fraser treated us to a high-energy performance and some high kicks and was joined on the keyboards by Stacey DeWolfe who also lent her vocals to the cause.

Miracle Fortress‘ Graham Van Pelt was joined by Telefauna’s Tyler Rauman and Indyish’s very own Tessa Smith who was a first-timer on the drums and pulled it off, miraculously well, i must say!
Mystery Guest revealed to be Sunset Rubdown’s Spencer Krug who sang only one song on his acoustic guitar.
And finally, the evening ended with Bionic’s lively performance, joined for one song by Olga. Quite the wonderful evening, because honestly… who doesn’t love Guided by Voices?
