Guerilla Runway videos

by Tessa Smith

I while back I got a facebook message from a guy named Jef who plays in the band, Jef and Holograms. He was wondering if I could post his ad for a drummer on Indyish. We don’t really have a community announcements board, but we do have a group blog (which you’re reading right now) that all Indyish artists can post to, and often use for that sort of thing. Also, anyone (not just Indyish artists) can send info and press releases about their events to editors@indyish.com and an Indyish staffer will post relevant or exciting ones to the blog under the profile team indyish. So I posted his ad on the blog and suggested a few other places to place a call (stillepost, craigslist, facebook event)

But I’m getting off topic.

Thing is, Jef also organizes this thing called, Guerilla Runway where he and some friends take over commercial spaces, like the Eaton Centre in Montreal, and perform an inpromptu fashion show with the escalators as their catwalk. They wear outrageous dresses and makeup and hold signs with different phrases about counteracting consumerism. I haven’t been to a Guerilla Runway show yet, but here are two videos of how it all goes down. I wish I could make out what it says on their placards! The second video shows the Guerilla Runway crew in action, and it seems like the response is pretty mixed. I would love to see this attempted in the action of a busy Saturday afternoon.
