September 2007 welcomed Simeon Coxe back to the stage performing as a solo version of Silver Apples. The former electronic rock duo, comprised of Simeon on his synthesizer alongside the late Danny Taylor on drums has been around since the late 60’s.
Did I mention that Simeon is 70?
After being asked by someone from the crowd, Simeon disclosed that he had just celebrated his 70th birthday a couple months ago. As I looked around and noticed a crowd of primarily guys and gals in their 20’s and 30’s, I was struck at how Simeon’s sound was able to transcend such wide generational gaps. I think this is what makes him both a true artist and performer. The show itself was engaging, and I especially enjoyed the visual aspect, which provided insight into his artistic process and worked as a counterbalance to the idolness that can often be associated with a one man show.
