WARNING: Hours of well produced and performed music may be consumed from the following posted website. Use at your own risk…
I haven’t posted on Indyish in a while, but the other day I came across a website so well constructed with such highly addictive content that I just felt the need to share it with some folks…
I recently returned to school to pursue an electroacoustics undergrad, so the topic of sound production is a special one – I revel in the warm, rich sound of a high quality music recording. Add to that some intimate video footage of sonically interesting recording artists performing live in an environment that pays homage to television shows like The Old Grey Whistle Test, musical interludes of classic Saturday Night Live, Jools Holland and this is what you get.
The Website is From The Basement, and was conceived by producer Nigel Goderich. A quote from the website mentions that the emphasis of the show:
…is about being artist friendly and making our bands as comfortable as possible so that they can give great performances without the usual agony of TV promo which everyone has to do but no one seems to enjoy. TV world is a pretty hostile environment for your average musician to have to walk into and bare his soul on cue.. It also doesn’t hurt that a lot of the people we’ve filmed are friends or people we’ve worked with before so they trust us and know that we understand what recording music is about as well as making good TV.
So be prepared. Put aside about five hours of your Sunday afternoon, find a cozy nook to nuzzle into with a good internet connection and enjoy. If you get stuck there, miss your appointments, forget to eat and become completely mesmerized by the music…don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Having great respect for Nigel Goderich and being in the recording domain myself, I thank you very much for sharing this website with us. What you say sounds really good and promising.
thanks.
Etienne.
