Fringe Reviews: Station 2 & L’Oeil du pigeon

by Sylvain Verstricht

Station 2, Eve LeClair & Maude Lafrance ***½
Les Productions Klictika deserves a bigger audience than they had the night I went to see their show. Their absurd play about two (or more) women waiting for a metro that never comes is bound to be compared to Becket’s Waiting for Godot. If there are any problems with Station 2, it’s that it is too ambitious for its simple means, that it tries too much to be everything and so misses out on being something. As with much absurd theatre, the conclusion is not as satisfying as one would like, but Station 2 still has enough intelligence and laughter to offer an enjoyable evening.

Station 2 plays at MAI, 3680 Jeanne-Mance, on the following dates:
13 WED 20:00
14 THU 16:30
15 FRI 18:45
16 SAT 21:15

L’Oeil du pigeon, Marie-Pascale Belanger *****
If you only see one dance show at the Fringe this year, or any show really, I would strongly suggest that you make it Marie-Pascale Belanger’s L’Oeil du pigeon. Unlike many shows at the Fringe, Belanger makes every effort to create a singular, cohesive experience despite the wide variety of her material. The performance, the music, the scenography, everything contributes to the atmosphere. Belanger blurs the line between violence and dance to create a work that is theatrical, original, funny, but most importantly a work that’s always thinking, so that it’s always alive. Don’t miss it.

L’Oeil du pigeon plays at Theatre La Chapelle, 3700 St-Dominique, on the following dates:
13 WED 18:30
16 SAT 17:00
17 SUN 13:45
