Found and Lost: Goals for 2002 (InFluxdance)
This is probably the second dance show I’ve ever seen in my life, so I’ll leave the review-proper to Sylvain. Just wanted to say that I liked the show! A short way in, my thoughts began to wander and soon I found myself having these very visceral memories of being a little kid, something I’d never experienced before. The dance brought back the way we moved when we were children: we sprawled unselfconsciously; made unapologetic messes, or organized our few possessions obsessively; picked on each other, petty and jealous, hair-pulling, push-and-shoving, and then were suddenly best friends again…The sparkly sets, insuppressible giggles and clever use of temporary tattoos only bolstered the kid-theme. 5 yays!

My origami motorcycle (Leaning Forward Theatre)
I think attending the 11pm showing of My Origami Motorcycle might have been a mistake. The late-night slots should probably be reserved for stupid-funny – for the Dan-d-Lyons or the Dancing Cock Brothers… But I wanted to show some support for Rebecca Singh’s 1-woman show as she has been a friendly face around the beer tent all week and a regular at the 13th hour.
I enjoyed whizzing and roaring across Canada with Singh on her nailpolish-coloured motorcycle, even though most of her travel stories ended with “and then I went to bed.” I didn’t really get into the second story line, which involved her running around her hometown, desperately hunting down a book about origami vehicles. Something about a clown-dream and a red paper frog and a guy called Chuck… And although Singh’s transitions were seamless, I’m not sure how flip-flopping back and forth along the timeline added to the story. I guess overall it was not a bad show, but not worth staying up past bedtime. Fortunately the remaining show is Saturday at 6:15 pm at the Mainline Theatre.
