review haiku:
locked in a cabin,
sweaty crazy beekeepers,
drip and go crazy.
The Beekeepers divvies up a healthy portion of morose and not quite enough of a portion of hilarity. Both actors are very strong, and play their parts well, but Christine Armstrong’s role of listless housewife doesn’t give her much room to shine. The dejected look she carries on her face is nothing short of sublime, but that can only carry for so long. One wished she was a bit on the kooky side of crazy, and had some more energy to throw to the audience. Understandably a daunting task given the subject, but knowing the capabilities of the actor however, one has to find the fault in Jeremy Taylor’s directing. That being said, if the director didn’t know all the strengths of Christine, he does know those of Andy Thrithart. Oh Andy. Truly wonderful to watch. When the prose worked with his natural comedic talents we were whisked away. When it didn’t, well, we got to fixate on the nauseating drops of honey hanging out in his beard.
Subdued craziness that could have done with a healthy squirt of zany.
