Fringe Day 3: The Live Music VideoS

by Sylvain Verstricht

You won’t believe me but I managed to pull yet another f***up while shooting on days 3 and 4. This time however I decided I wouldn’t tell you what it is and let you figure it out on your own. If you can’t, then good for me. I swear that by the last day of the Fringe, I will actually get everything right. (On a side note, Youtube is taking forever to process the videos - I’ve been waiting for over 9 hours - but the first video is finally up, so I thought I would simply publish the page so you can check out The Unsettlers and you can come back soon to see the other bands. The videos should be up any second now.)

I have to admit that I didn’t expect much from all the free/pay-what-you-can music at the Fringe. If you want the good stuff, you have to pay the big bucks, right? Turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong. I can honestly say that the “hoedown” organized by Indyish was one of the best nights of live music I’ve gone to in quite some time. Every single band was fantastic. The order the bands were supposed to play in was switched upside down, so I unfortunately didn’t get to videotape Lil’ Andy doing his thing. However, I did get to tape one of The Unsettlers’ brilliant epic songs:

Right in the middle of the hoedown, the 20-piece Kumpania drum collective showed up in front of Club Lambi with a bang. Risa came in and told me to go check them out. But the most exciting thing about this is that one of the people taking in some of Kumpania’s action was none other than Amy Jo Johnson, aka Julie in Felicity. You know, she was Felicity’s friend, but then she dated Ben and it was all awkward between her and Felicity because Felicity liked Ben too… Anyway, I then went back up to catch The Darling Demaes, which is a very fitting name given how charming they are:

The night ended with The Dress Whites. I missed the beginning of the song, but I chose to put up that one anyway because it was their opening song and the singer broke a string on his guitar, which was a great way to start their set. I think you can actually see the camera moving to the beat of my feet tapping (sorry):
