Ok, we’ve got a few nice things to point you to today. We’re a hard-working duo here at the Montreal-based independent label Fixture Records and we really appreciate when other hard-working folks put their energy into our projects.
First off, Brave Radar drummer and excellent solo electronic artist Gabriel Ng has been recording new songs under the name CRESTING. He hasn’t even had a chance to finish an album yet, though we’re expecting great things, perhaps this winter, from Cresting. In the meantime, he’s getting love from the zine Spitting Contest for some of the tracks posted on his myspace.
Right before leaving on tour last week, Dirty Beaches left us with his perfectly weather appropriate SEASIDE EP, a download-only release that matches his Old Blood LP in lofi beauty.
This guy definitely doesn’t sit around twiddling fingers. Dirty Beaches’ horror-themed LP is set to release very very soon and he’s already finished another download record which will go online shortly. Check out this blog-love for Dirty Beaches’ Seaside EP from Herohill (with 2 mp3s):
“The sounds of Dirty Beaches […] let you lose yourself in thought as you stand shoulder to shoulder on the Streetcar after work. They are the warm fuzz that adds weight to your eyelids when the sun dips out of sight at the end of a day on the beach or the comfort of hiking up the collar of your winter coat on a peaceful walk home on the first cold, crisp night.
Alex doesn’t seem to be concerned with appealing to the masses, as most of his music is inspired by traveling and solitude. His pleasure comes from observing the crowd undetected, relishing the smallest details that most take for granted. While most of the songs meld into the noise of the city, he does find some incredibly pleasant lo-fi pop moments - like the smile inducing A Hundred Languages or the incredible Blue Birds. Remarkably, he’s able to make his most personal experiences transferable and accessible.”
Dirty Beaches’ Seaside EP is available for $5 on the Fixture website. And we’re working to get it up on Indyish as well. Have a listen to the album here.
Ok, that’s all for now. Thanks to the kind people who wrote about this music that we’re seriously thrilled to share with you.
