Everything is art in Williamsburg

This little piece of installation art gave us a laugh on the way home from Manhattan to Williamsburg last night and Tristan snapped a picture:

The tree stump on Bedford ave, swamped in “detritus” at 3am, has been labled like a museum piece:

Paul Richard. Untitled 2007. Stump, Dirt, Detritus and Mixed Media. 10 x 52.5 x 48 inches. Estimate $89,000

It was my last night in NYC and we went out drinking, by habit I think. The folks in the bars on New Years day were a rag-tag and entertaining bunch. I especially enjoyed meeting one east-side native who told tales of coming face to face with Marilyn Monroe with playwrite Arthur Miller on 1st Avenue back in 1957. It was a nice little link to the monumental history of New York, which is easy to lose sight of in the bustle of such a dynamic, saturated place.

I’m glad to be back home in Montreal this evening, sobering up a little, and hopefully becoming a more reliable blogger!
