They’re ba-ack! Jaune Prodz is proud to bring Montrealers a night of good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll, thrash and punk when Dance Laury Dance play their first live show of 2012, joined by Die Mannequin and Dirt Cannon, on Friday, June 1 at Club Soda (1225 St. Laurent).

Right from their very first jams in 2007, Dance Laury Dance had a clear objective: to follow the tradition of rock ‘n’ roll in its purest form while developing a unique and distinctive sound. With their long hair, leather and distortion, the heirs to Motörhead, Guns n’ Roses and AC/DC were born, releasing their first independently produced eight-song album, Out of Rockers, which was mixed by Ryan Battistuzzi (Malajube, The Sainte Catherines, We are Wolves) in 2009.

Hitting the road soon after, they gave over 200 performances in less than three years, giving a special concert at the legendary Viper Room in Los Angeles, and opening for Pennywise during 2010’s Vélirium, but to this day, the Dance Laury Dance’s greatest achievement is, without a doubt, having given a solid opening performance for Joe Satriani and Metallica in front of 150,000 people during the most recent edition of the Festival d’été de Québec.

Never ones to take a break, Dance Laury Dance will once again be rocking Montreal to its core with a brand spankin’ new guitarist, performing songs from their latest release, Living For The Roll, along with brand new, never before heard tunes.

“We’ve been off the road since December and we miss the stage as much as we can miss Dimebag, but we did not scratch our asses since then and we wrote a bunch of new songs and found guitar player Savage Phil Lemire to fill up the departure of Dagger Pat. And yes, Montreal, we will show it all to you June 1 at Club Soda! We can’t wait to play loud and party hard,” said vocalist Max Lemire.

Show Details:

Date: Friday, June 1, 2012

Venue: Club Soda, 1225 St. Laurent

Time: 8:30pm

Cost: $17 Advance

Age Limit: All Ages

—–

The Sainte Catherines, We Are Wolves).

Made on a small, undeveloped piece of family land, Attempts maps out a survey into the notion of landownership. Through collecting, containing and marking different pieces of the landscape, the project explores the various geographical and topographical elements found within the lot. The apparently futile constructions depicted in the photographs, combined with statistical information and drawings of the land, aim to visualize and question the often illogical commodification of nature and the ownership of something that exists in a constant state of flux.

By approaching the subject through the act of highlighting rather than by intervening or radically changing the land, the project aims to surface the notion of ownership through the familiar but often overlooked fractions of the landscape. The off-scale geometric constructions, made from ropes and discarded household items, are used to explore the grey area between sheltering and possessing. Rather than managing to permanently capture or hold onto something, the constructions act more as focal points for the different elements and shapes in the land, posing the question: what is it that is actually being owned?

Attempts has been supported by the Arts Council of Finland, the Finnish Cultural Foundation and Génération d’idées.

Minna Pöllänen (b.1980 Finland) is a London-based visual artist working with photography, text, wooden constructions and drawing. Her works address and observe issues surrounding landownership, borders and the maintenance, deconstruction, re-building and viewing of nature. Pöllänen holds an MA in photography from London College of Communication and has exhibited in Finland, UK and Canada. In 2011, she received the award Génération d’idées which earned her an exhibit at the gallery Les Territoires.

The New World is a collection of over 100 drawings, collages and paintings completed during the fall of 2011 and the winter of 2012. The images draw upon Clarkson’s obsession with the rise of neo-conservatism and the invisibility of ideology in modern North America. The work is also deeply personal, revealing his own experiences as a catholic altar boy, Boy Scout, and as a groomed target of sexual molestation by authority figures within those organizations.

Clarkson has assembled these drawings into a great line of images, ranging from humorous to disturbing. The series is an attempt to order the world and to rally against the authority of reality, and the growing authoritarian philosophy of North America. Clarkson’s New World is a grand northern Ontario forest, populated by distance runners, paramilitary werewolves and seemingly innocent Boy Scouts, all at odds with one another.

Clarkson’s practice involves photography, collage, drawing, painting, performance, architecture, digital art, illustration and is now expanding into sculptural and video art. He has exhibited internationally, with shows in the UK, the United Stated, Australia, and across Canada. His work is also included in numerous private collections. In 2011, he attended the Banff Centre for the Arts and was nominated for a Winnipeg mayoral award for his continued excellence in the field of fine arts. His illustrations are regularly published in Canadian Dimensions, The Globe and Mail and The Walrus.

Grunge rockers ARCANE SAINTS whom have become an explosive hard rock force to be reckoned with in their native Australia and most recently China, are now proud to announce their latest adventure that was encouraged by The Trews for their first Canadian tour in Quebec and Ontario.

“We’re extremely excited to be an Australian band touring Canada for the first time. Having recently opened for The Trews here in Australia they could not speak highly enough about the Canadian rock scene and this inspired us to tour the great north.” commented vocalist/ guitarist Michael John.

With two EPs, frequent commercial radio airplay and an appearance on MTV’s “Up and Coming Bands” documentary behind them in their relatively short career, Arcane Saints are prepping to show the Canucks some great Aussie rock!

Arcane Saints came together when singer/guitarist Michael John (a relative of Iron Maiden founding member Steve Harris), invested his prize money from an international song writing competition and got a one-way ticket to Melbourne, Australia from his home country of New Zealand to form the quartet with bassist Jim Luxford, guitarist Michael “Sheep” Gooding and drummer Sam Sablinskis.

SHOW DATE:

Monday 23 April- Crobar, Montreal, QC – https://www.facebook.com/events/204847926281395/
