To All Indyish Neighbors, Block Parents, Children and Ol’folks
I am sending out to you, for the first time ever (Indyish Cherry Popped!!), an invitation to see works of art at Galerie VAV Gallery, by Tara Chartrand and myself (Thea Jones). Tara and I were strangers before this show, but quickly we saw the way our work collided together–an experience that is common to many families both Tara and I, in very different ways, have felt the hand of illness touch our own families. To the witness, an invasion of this kind brings many things to the surface one of which is of personal history, telling this history and remembering it. How does this story affect mine? How do I tell this story? How do I remember? And how do I find this history now? It is here that the archive can become a useful place to pull from as well as to add to, re-shaping and re-placing memory in order to remember those things which can escape us. It is through objects, images and the combination of the two that recollection can be sparked. And though everyone remembers in a variety of ways there is an aspect of the meditative, the pause to think, the pondering that facilitates moments for the past to come to the forefront of thought. In this way, an exhibition of art can provide such moments of pause and reflection.
We would love to see you there, it is for you!
