Emerging Artists Series: My New Gig that Helps Everyone

by sarah pearson

I’ve landed a new gig as a radio host for Mike FM’s Emerging Artist Series.

radio

This is positively delightful because:
a) I’ve never done radio, and am stoked to learn
b) I like interviewing people, and like to talk
c) I get to meet lots of local talent, and they get to meet me
d) I am passionate about anything relating to voice, I want to develop my radio voice, I love having forums to express my ideas, and thefore think radio and me could make a happy and fruitful marriage
e) FAME!! FORTUNE!!! Notoriety!!

Here’s the deal:
Every week I interview an unsigned “emerging artist” in our Mile End studio. The band/artist chooses one song that will be promoted and played on the station throughout the week. On Wednesday at 9:50am (during the peak of rush-hour top-forty hits on the station) that song is played, and on Friday at 9:50 the interview is aired along with the song.

I think it’s an awesome series that gives artists a chance to speak to a less indie crowd, to experience the interview process, and (obviously) to promote their work.

I’m currently scheduling weekly featured artists for the next two months. Please drop me a line if you are a Canadian artist with an mp3 you’d like to share with the broadcast world.

thanks for having us on as your first band! it was a good chance for us to learn how to do that sort of thing, it’s all pretty weird. but thanks again for the opportunity.

your voice is great for radio! good luck with the rest of the series and we’ll be sure to point any good local bands your way.
