Since starting the show back in February, we set a series of goals for ourselves and started planning a few side projects. We started simple, by covering the local arts and culture scene and introducing you to new music, films, books, politics, comedy and much more! From there, we opened our doors and brought in a musical guest to perform live on the show. The first live session happened on May 2nd, with our good friends (and friendly-enemies) Ol’ Savannah! Since then we’ve grown to feature a musical guest each week. From solo projects to full bands we’ve had a slew of musicians come through Edge of the City at the CJLO Studios.
During the summer we presented the Third Annual Fringe Fandango, a yearly event that celebrates the St-Ambroise Montréal FRINGE Festival, by inviting anyone participating in the festival to come on our show to plug their show. (It originally started three years ago when Edge of the City was WatercoolerTALK, hence the third annual.) Also this summer had the chance to cover the most prestigious comedy festival in the world, Just for Laughs. Which gave us the opportunity to interview some of the best that comedy has to offer, including Beardyman, The Pajama Men and Greg Proops.
As students were flocking back to school, and the summer was coming to a close, we started a brand new weekly segment (that we have been planning since March). Montreal’s PREMIER storytelling event, CONFABULATION partnered with Edge of the City, and has brought you a brand new story each week ever since!
And in the last few weeks, we launched two of our side projects; the website and the weekly podcast! Each and every week, you can visit our site and download the podcast, listen directly online or grab it through iTunes!
To end off what has been a brilliant year, and to start 2012 with something new, we are proud to present our very first LIVE PODCAST EVENT!
This Saturday, December 10th, 2011, Edge of the City presents it’s FIRST LIVE PODCAST EVENT at Shift Space (1190 St. Antoine Ouest - right across from the Bell Centre and just a few steps from Lucien L’Allier Metro). We will be featuring music from Ol’ Savannah, The Bawdy Electric, Belgrave and Sheila Giffen! We’ll also be featuring two stories from CONFABULATION, and stand up comedy from Chris Betts, Keith Waterfeild and newcomer Vanessa Kneale! The night will be hosted by myself (Paul Aflalo) and fresh off a plane, and happy to be back home, Asaf Gerchak!
This will be a LIVE PODCAST EVENT, which means it will be a little different than most shows. We’ll be recording the entire night, and releasing not one but TWO audio podcasts! The first will be released lat next week, the second at the beginning of January!
The entire night is happening at Shift Space, which is located at 1190 St. Antoine Ouest (just across from the Bell Centre). It’s a beautiful new space, and is located in the best of locations; the heart of downtown, and is easily accessible to everyone from around the city! (No joke a two minute walk from Lucien L’Allier Metro!)
Doors open at 8pm, with the show starting at 8:30pm SHARP! Tickets are $8 available at the door.
It’s going to be a great night! So come enjoy awesome music, comedy, storytelling, and full evening of Edge of the City!
