Christine Hoberg has a sultry, slippery, jazzy croon with nicely awkward edges. Rarely do I like bands or vocalists that blur and marblemouth the words to songs, but sometimes when done selectively, it tastes right, the sounds they make instead of words are prettier and the meaning is hard work and maybe not even that meaningful in the end at all because what matters most is the shape of sounds, and the bits of phrases that peek through. Anyway, New York singer-songwriter Christine Hoberg is sort of like that sometimes, sweetly dropping notes casually rolled, then spat out with a smile.
