Caroline Keating to give one more show!

by Indie Montreal

Indie Montreal is pleased to announce that it will be presenting local songstress Caroline Keating’s final show until summer 2009. The event will also feature local singer-songwriter Charlotte Cornfield and will take place on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Le Divan Orange. Tickets for the November 23rd show will be available for $5 in advance at Cheap Thrills starting Wednesday, November 12th and for $7 at the door.

Caroline’s first album is in the works. But, even without a debut release, she has garnered a lot of fan and industry attention, having earned herself spots at consecutive Pop Montreal festivals, Fringe Pop, South by Southwest, North by Northeast, on Pop Montreal’s Pop-Off Tour and opening for the likes of Miracle Fortress. She has also been featured on Pop Montreal’s 2007 and 2008 compilation CDs. Modest and introspective, Caroline’s lyrics find friends in every audience. She will sway audiences oversees for the next few months. With a trip to Geneva on the horizon, Montreal music fans only have one chance to see her before Summer 2009 – November 23rd. Her music is available at www.myspace.com/carolinekeating.

Charlotte Cornfield, age 20, was born and raised around music and chaos in Toronto, Ontario. She spent the better part of her childhood travelling from instrument to instrument – ensemble to ensemble – genre to genre. You get the drift. There were forays on the steel drums, the French horn, the piano, recorder, and even crash cymbals in an Opera.

But for a girl with a short attention span and a passion for hitting things with sticks, rock and roll was the place to be – and Charlotte became a drummer. This marked her discovery of wicked music and an insane listening adventure that continues as we speak. Somewhere in her history Charlotte picked up a guitar and started putting words to paper. With a head full of imagery and a heart full of song, this young drummer became a songwriter and started forming bands to flesh out her tunes.

But it took a solo-trip to BC with her guitar at the age of 16 to provide the catalyst for grief and hits to come. There, under the west coast starlight, Charlotte fell in love and wrote “Young and Tall.”

Then she moved to Montreal to study jazz drumming at Concordia, starting playing live all over town, cut an EP in Toronto in summer 2007 with the incredible Ryan Granville Martin, and hit the road summer ‘08.

Already, Charlotte has played countless venues in Toronto and Montreal, toured Ontario, Quebec, and the East Coast of Canada, played in New York City and in France, and been featured in the Mariposa Folk Festival and several other fests. Her music has been played on several nationwide CBC radio programs, and she has charted all over Canadian community radio.

There’s a full-length debut to come, and a cross-country tour next summer.
The full band, Charlotte Cornfield and the Talls (featuring Steve Tchir, Noah Barer and Dan FM) can be spotted tearing up stages in and around Montreal.
And, well, Charlotte’s always travelling with her guitar. To hear Charlotte’s music, please visit www.myspace.com/charlottecornfield.
