Calling Writers to the Mess

Dear fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction writers:

The Indyish Monthly Mess is going into it’s 8th edition and is looking to meet and feature great writers alongside artists of all kinds.

This show costs nothing to perform in. For now, we pay artists with a free beer or two, and we’ll be able to pay more in the future. The audience Pays What They Can to see a show with 8-12 different, awesome acts. Perhaps because of this we tend to get a good-sized, happy crowd.

For the performance, you can read your own work, or we can find people to read for you. We usually give this type of act 5 minutes, but if there is something special to it you can a get longer set, or more then 1. (We’ve had people read with jazz bands improvising, dance, slideshow, etc) We celebrate and encourage collaborations, but are also fans of a straight read. If you have ideas but don’t know how to put them into practice let us know, we might be able to help.

For the October show (on Halloween, 31st) we are looking for 1 or 2 scary or otherwise seasonal short stories or poems. If you are interested in the October show please contact us asap at Monthlymess @indyish.com. If possible, include the piece you’d be reading so we can quickly pick the best and decide where to put it in the show.

Include your material in the body of the email or as an attachment - .doc, .rtf, .pdf, .odt, .txt are all fine. Indyish.com will never publish your text without your permission, but Monthly Mess performances are taped and, as often as possible, each act is posted with the artist’s name on web video sharing networks.
