calling all poster artists, design junkies, and doodle fiends

by Risa Dickens

Indyish is calling all poster artists, design junkies, and doodle fiends….

We want your art on our launch event poster!

Indyish.com supports a growing network of independent artists.
Our official website launch will be an Indyish Arts weekend of workshops in music, movie making, technology and other playful experiments for young people, old people and artists.

Like Indyish itself, this event will celebrate the wide range of creative methods and styles present in Montreal art. That’s why we can’t imagine limiting ourselves to just one poster design for the event.

Poster submissions must include:

-the name of the site - Indyish.com
-the date of the event (August 5-6)
-the location (Mile End Cultural Centre)
-the address (5390 St. Laurent)

and can include:

-space for our info. if you don’t include enough space for our info, we probably won’t actually use your piece for the mass produced show poster. But even if we don’t use it, it’ll still be up at the event.

-the Indyish logo and/or caricature by One Neck Hates You located on the bottom right of the indyish.com website.

By the way, feel free to caricature “indyish”- One Neck did this for one of our logos (note the indyish mohawk), and we think it’s pretty great and hilarious.

Please drop off your poster (drop them off between June 28th and July 1st, 2006) in print or digital form (on cd) to the Friperie Wa’ou with your name, email, and website (if applicable). Wa’ou is located at 5587 Parc. For hours of operation and directions, go here: http://www.wornjournal.com/html/waou/

Alternately, digital submissions can be sent to:

All posters submitted in print and digital versions will be displayed with your name at Main Hall during the weekend event, and on our website, and possibly in a future Open Journal Press book.

Plus, if your poster makes the Top 5 designs, you will be invited to become an Indyish artist and enjoy all the benefits of being among Montreal’s most talked-about artists in film, music, clothing design, and writing.

So, get cracking! Feel free to check out our website for ideas and use any other inspiration that strikes you. Have fun!

Deadline for submissions: July 1st, 2006.

  1. risa proclaims with a mighty roar:

i can’t wait to see how this whole poster thang turns out. i hope some stand out designs show up- that would be very exciting. if they do, thanks go to Tessa Smith for drafting the above call for submissions, and major jones for adding kick and happenstance. Actually, heaps of thanks go to them anyway. this kind of ‘company voice’ is really hard to write in without sounding like a jerk, i find. i’m so fricken tickled that talented people want to help us (One Neck, Nicholas Cote, the Interns, thank you!!). this kind help bodes well, i think. cheers!

  2. gblott proclaims with a mighty roar:

So i was wondering how big the poster will be and i decided to ask Risa…

and she said 11 by 17 most likely…

and i said thats a pretty standard poster size…

    and she said yup…

and i said what do i do with this 12 foot by 7 meter ice sculpture i just carved to serve as a poster…

and she made a brilliant suggestion…

    then i made a witty aside…

then we talked about the weather for a minute…

then i had to go (my bus was coming)

yes. that’s exactly how it went down. exactly.

we will indeed be reproducing the indyish posters we choose at 11 by 17, but, that’s where the choice comes in. If you’d rather do a big big poster, only make one, not have it all over town, but have it up at the main hall for a few days, then do that. i think that would be stellar.

ice sculptures, i’m not so sure we can accomodate. but we’ll try for you gblott!
