Dear Indyish,
If yer looking for something wholesome to take part in post-Osheaga or want to sponsor sex-ed, check out Ca Marche!
I’m taking part and all the money I raise goes DIRECTLY back to my awesome workplace Head & Hands to fund the Sense Project -which is a grassroots sex education program that we created when sex ed was essentially cut from the Quebec high school curriculum two years ago. This project is so inspiring that I could go on (for a long time), but here is an example of how cool this is. Last week, our health animator began training our volunteer facilitators to lead workshops on the same day that a group of students from one of our partner schools stopped by to make posters for Ca Marche. There was this one moment where the two groups met and were all psyched to realize that they’d be seeing each other in class in a few weeks. And there would be condoms, lube, and drama games involved. It was totally phenomenal.
Something I like to remind people is that in 2004 Canadian women aged 15-29 years accounted for 43% of positive HIV test reports. STI and HIV/AIDS prevention is still very relevant, and critically important. These are OUR youth in OUR schools. These are OUR friends, and OUR families. Right here in Canada.
Ca Marche is a beautiful way to gather in solidarity to support sex ed and sense, and to chill with all of the other organizations in Quebec who are joining us doing this crucial prevention and education work around HIV/AIDS.
If you are in Montreal, please sign up to walk with Head & Hands on September 16th, and/or make a donation on my page. If you are not in Montreal, you are off the hook to walk. All you’ve got to do is make a donation. : )
Thanks to everyone and have a great end of summer!
Love Amber
