blackmission- an ongoing interview in bite-sized bits

have you read any good books lately or seen any good shows?
I would love to say yes, but I am so busy, I never have the time to
read or see shows. The last book I read which I really enjoyed was “No
Crystal Stair” a novel by Mairuth Sarsfield an author from Montreal
about black women and the black community in the 1940’s in Montreal.
And The 6th book in the Harry Potter series ‘The Half Blood Prince”.
Yes I can admit I am a Harry Potter fan and I wait with great
anticipation for the seventh and final book.

do you have a day job? what is it?
Yes I do have a day job. I am an assistant merchadiser for a
children’s sleepwear company. And the more I go there, the more I
know that I do not belong there. It is hard working on your own line,
working for someone else and as in my case, taking care of your kids.
I wake up at 5:30am (I try not to take that extra 15 minutes to half
an hour to actually will myself to roll out of bed every morning) and
I go to bed at 12:30 am each night. I have given up on the concept of
a full night of rest and have accepted, that if this is what I want, I
can’t complain or wish things were different, I just have to work
hard, be consistent and I will make things different.

why make clothing?
Because it is what I love to do. I love to shop, I love to daydream
about what outfit I am going to wear for what event. I love to see my
ideas and concepts flow from my mind to paper and then come to life in
material. I love to dress people in my clothes, making them look good
and feel good. Having them get compliments which in turn they pass on
to me. It makes me feel good, I have fun doing it and the more I work
at it the more accomplished I feel. There is nothing like having a
talent for something and developing your craft. I like that through
something so superficial, I can realize a feeling of deep satisfaction.
