Like Klezmer much? You and the rest of the world these days!! This Eastern-European folk style has never been hipper, hotter, and phatter than it is now.
My good friend and trumpet-diva Eva (of Code Pie fame) has her toes in various Klez ponds, including a show she’s playing tonight with a group called The Youjsh. From the horse’s mouth!
A wonderful opportunity for ears everywhere!
The Youjsh, live at Cagibi
5490 St. Laurent (corner of St Viateur)
Thursday March 20th, 9pm
The groundwork for the Youjsh was laid when Malcolm Sailor came across St Henri’s underground drunken klezmer-punk scene (which happened to be located in his apartment). Thusly inspired, he contracted a bunch of fellow delinquent music students with a like interest in selling out their classical and jazz roots and riding a wave of eclectically-inspired balkan-sounding music to financial success and sexual conquest.

BTW, anyone get the flu recently? Bugger, it’s a brutal virus. I fell ill nine days ago and, though my fever’s blessedly gone and the cough much calmed from the spasmodic, fire-in-throat 24/7 pain-fest that was the past week, I am still miserably tired, almost without voice, and just plain ole’ grumpy.
So come by the Cagibi tonight and if you’re lucky, I’ll give you a kiss.
