Ah yes, it’s that time of the year where your hand naturally gravitates towards the snooze button and then you open your eyes to realise that your class starts in 40 minutes and you’re still in your pyjamas. Or is that just me? Just like Lise, I’m gradually learning to live with my two new roommates. I realised while reading her post that we’re basically doing the same thing except that while Lise has only been there for a few days, I’ve been there for over a month and my windows still doesn’t have any drapes. Oops! I plugged in my sewing machine today, so hopefully, by tomorrow, I will no longer be exposing myself to my neighbours.
My roommates might not have an amazing closet full of vintage dresses, sadly, but they do play some nice music every once in a while and I occasionally burst into their room/improvised jam space with a tambourine or a box of rice and dance.
Oh yes, so back to school, where I’m blogging from right now. I uploaded the photos from the last mess (weeee!) and here’s a few:

I’ve been having such a good time at these past messes. I’ve been trying to describe why that is by retyping this very sentence a bunch of times, but I just can’t. Maybe it’s spending some time with the fantastic indyish crew that I’ve grown to adore these past few months. Maybe it’s just being in the middle of this big artistic undertaking that exudes creativity and positive vibes. Maybe it’s the fact that each mess is so different from the next, even when we stay at the same venue. Whatever it is, I like it.
I was also really happy to introduce my protégés, the Coward and the Pelican. I actually met Phil at last year’s Osheaga and we started talking while waiting for Bell Orchestre to start. He told me about his band. I told him I’d check it out and I did. Needless to say, I was impressed and we kept in contact since then. I’ve been trying to spread the word and the monthly mess was just the right stage for these young folks. Throughout their set, I had a bunch of people coming up and asking that I confirm the rumours that most of them couldn’t even make use of some drinking tickets seeing as they weren’t even 18.
One of my favourite moment of the night was the lecture by Matt Soar. The monthly mess has explored dozens of communication forms, but I’m pretty sure it was the first time we’d had a lecture. While most associate lectures with sleep-inducing monotone speeches (and yes, I am talking about the marketing class I just got out of), this one was just light-hearted and entertaining enough for the mess and the fact that it was accompanied by Ok Giraffe just made it all the better.
Next month’s monthly mess is already in the works and has been for a while now. It’ll be extra special. I don’t know if I can reveal some details just yet, but I am already very very excited!
