About: Straight from the wild mountains and valleys of the west, comes a ramblin' troubadour by the name of Steve Brockley. Spending the last few years following his guitar across the continent, he can now be found in a place known for its vibrant music scene and night life, Montreal.
Settling for nothing but the best, Brockley has no time for anything half assed when it comes to his guitar picking, singing or songwriting. As soon as he hits the first notes, there is no chance of mistaking him for just another guy with a guitar playing in the background. Flying high on the wings of his sensitive and commanding guitar work, he summons tales of love, heartbreak, beauty and pain with striking honesty, and it doesn't take long for everyone in the room to fall into a deep hush.
Steve Brockley began his musical journey as a devoted student of the folk and blues guitar masters, listening and learning from records ranging from the howling electric Chicago sound, to the raw truth of the Delta blues. He continued to hone his guitar skills by travelling and gigging with bands ranging in styles from rock, jazz, reggae, and some African styles he learned while playing with musicians from Congo and Kenya. He even had a stint in a band backing a burlesque dance troupe.
Although equally comfortable playing in a coffee shop, or on stage with a lady doing a striptease, it did not take Brockley too long to figure out his true path was not only as a guitar player, but as a self-contained singer and songwriter in his own right. Hearing the powerful words of the heavyweight storytellers like Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, and Woody Guthrie, along with the blues he loved, helped to trigger a shift in his focus, and since he started crafting his own songs he has never looked back. However rare for a young man, Brockley's vast repertoire and understanding of old-time music gives him a sense of tradition and history, but armed with his creativity and drive for achieving new sounds, he knows exactly where he's going.
