About: I'm a fibre artist and vet student with an interest in sustainable/green craft. I strive to create yarns and handknits with as little negative environmental impact as possible, through the use of minimally processed, locally produced, and recycled materials.
Conventional yarn manufacturing involves the use of toxic chemicals such as sulfuric acid and formaldehyde. Not only does this create hazardous waste as a byproduct, but it can leave residues in the finished yarn that can be irritating to the skin. I buy raw fleece directly from local, small-scale farms and use a gentle, non-toxic cleaning process to prepare it. I prefer using naturally coloured wools instead of dyes (which can contain heavy metals and other carcinogens). Occasionally I make use of thrifted or 'recycled' yarns in my handknits as well.
I also teach beginner and intermediate spinning classes, at
Ariadne Knits in Montreal and
Workshop Boutique in Ottawa.
