A little while ago, we added the tagging feature to indyish which allows our visitors to navigate the site in new and interesting ways. Tags allow you to browse for products that have been associated with “keywords” chosen by our members. They appear at the bottom of every post, and a giant “tag cloud” is located on our front page (also at the bottom) that features the top 100 tags used throughout our site (updated in real-time).
Ideally, clicking on any given tag would send you to an archive for that word (or phrase). Tags are thought to be more flexible than regular categories (like music, t-shirts, etc. ) because you could classify posts by anything you like. For example, you could tag an album as “folk-rock” or a t-shirt as “green”.
Well, until now, only editors (and risa and i) were able to add tags. Now all artists (you have to be logged in obviously or it doesn’t know you’re an artist) can tag any product on indyish. This includes your own posts, as well as anybody else’s posts.
To add tags you can either:
1. add a tag directly to a post (this does not have to be your own post) by entering it into the empty space provided at the end of the list of tags for that post. Then click the “+” (plus) sign. Then hit refresh on your browser and the new tag should magically appear.
2. click “edit this post” for a given post (it has to be your own) and look for the area marked “Tags (comma separated list)”. Enter your tags and then re-save your post.

The basic thing to keep in mind here (from an artists perspective), is that you want your visitors (be they family, friends, fans, clients, or strangers) to be able to find your products in different, unique, but still logical ways. So artists: get ready. set. and tag, tag away!
