Ariadne knits new nets online and in Montreal
by Risa DickensI dig Ariadne: weaver, conqueror of labyrinths, lover of love and of wine and, in this case, community and enviro oriented indie knitting! I wandered into the new yarn boutique following a meeting down in the St.Henri hood, remembering it from Worn Journal founder’s squawks of delight when driving past it back into town from Lady Fest. The place is heartwarming and cozy no matter what you squawk about usually, and on Saturday and Sunday Feb 15 and 16, 2008, there’s drop in knit for free workshops, frou frou drinks, and yarn tasting!

Mary Louese Jackson and Molly Ann Rothschild co-own the boutique, opened doors in Dec. 2007, and are still moving things around and setting up shop in the bright open room with it’s hugely cozy vibe, and elegant wool colours. They launched the website about 9 months before launching the storefront in Dec 2007, so it’s all brand new, and going well based on my scintillating interview with the incredibly cute Mary Lou…

But if you want a true glimpse of the goodness, head down this weekend for yarn tasting, party, general fun and goofyness. They had an accordion cover band booked that had to cancel, but last night I sent Bad Uncle their way, so you might catch and unplugged rowdy set by this bawdy trio offshoot of the Unsettlers on Saturday night.
If you miss this weekend due to Valentines heart hangover, drop in any Thursday for a knit class with a materials provided for 25$ 2 hours. Or drop in any time to sit amidst the knit and spun things and just enjoy the company. And watch their site for info on other workshops and community events, new yarn flavours and general merriment! I love Ariadne. So much so that I’m teaching a class around once a month there, despite the fact that I live in Ottawa! Mary and Molly have done a fabulous job with the shop and I love that they involve themselves so much with local designers and artists.
