Poor Ottawa. Often forgotten in the shadow of its bigger and more cosmopolitan neighbours, it suffers from a not-entirely-undeserved reputation as a dull government town. What is often missed, however, is a surprisingly vibrant (and rapidly growing) cultural scene–indie boutiques, underground art galleries, cheap and plentiful music offerings are all there to sustain the non-bureaucratic segment of the populace. The problem so far seems to be one of publicity–while all this stuff is happening on a regular basis, no one seems to know about it.
