Another 7 part film event! Infest by No Media Kings Jim Munroe

by Risa Dickens

As you’ll see from the segment of an email back and forth below, Astria Suparak has got my back. All our backs. What I mean is - though some of the artists on Indyish.com aren’t necessarily pumping this co-authored site full of daily blog posts and products, they are still stitching us into other circuits out there and pitching in in their powerful emaily ways. It’s a sweet surprise that I could not be more thankful for.

Especially since this time, I’ve been e-introduced to JIm Monroe, who authors the site No Media Kings, which is visually beautiful, and hyper useful for people of our ilk who are out their making art with their friends and their selves in exactly the ways they want to see it be made. Minus the dream budget. With an extra dash of freedom-inspired eurekea. Right? right.

As Astria has brought to our attention, The Assembly and Jim Monroe’s Infest kind of have a lot in common.

In fact, from his site it looks like we already have a fun pack of things in common- he’s guest judging a music video contest that’s remarkably like the ones we’ve thrown a few times, dating back to our launch in August 2006. This one is being produced by Asthmatic Kitty and it’s still open to participants, heads up.

Both The indyish Assembly and Munroe’s Infest Wisely are being produced by 7 different teams, the main difference is in how the groups got started. Y’all know a bit about the relay process that makes The Assembly or can click about a bit to find out more. Here’s a blurb on Infest Wisely (witty title, eh?):

Infest Wisely is a lo-fi sci-fi zerobudget feature written by Jim Munroe. Seven segments, each with a different director and intertwining characters, explore a world changed by the tiniest product in history.

Maybe migrant workers in the bloodstream wasn’t such a great idea.

Heh. I love it. I love sci fi.

One of the best books I think I’ve ever read, and I did an English lit. degree befre the MA in Coms, is hard sci-fi: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Heinlein. I’ve love to see, be in, help make a movie of that, if it were possible to do it in a way that did justice to the smart complexity of the social systems and subtle thoughts on revolutionary politics..

I’m veering wildly, inspired by Infest. Sorry. Suffice it to say, I look forward to thanking Astria and to hooking up with the clearly joyfully prolific Mr. Jim Munroe for email trading, schemeing and perhaps eventual high-5’s.

Wow, neat! Thanks Astria.
Risa, I also have a seven segmented movie by
seven directors in the works:

…a kind of different, kind of similar project… Please add me to your
list!
