I am a member of a new Amateur Press Association called the Marcil Review. Amber from Lickety-Split is a member as well, and so is Matthew Surridge. Every member contributes ten pages to each issue, including notes on the previous issue. Members can contribute graphics or any kind of writing. Everything submitted goes to a central mailer. In traditional AMA’s, the central mailer compiled all the copies sent to her into individual books for all members. We just make pdf’s. Anyway, yesterday was the deadline and I got my submission in just in time. I worked with scans of my embroidery, playing with the light coming through from the scanner where the fabric was folded, and zooming in on small details, and laying out facing pages with small differences. And I also included the first two of the characters passed along to me by local lad about town Sherwin Tjia. We’re doing an odd project together. He has 19 sketch books full of ink drawings of people, young and old, staring still on public transit or at poetry readings. I flipped through books 1, 13 and 19 and picked out characters I wanted to embroider. Here’s my second attempt:
