Corporate Release

Indyish and the Indyish Arts Mini-Fest.
Organized Independents is an oxymoron (and a little long winded) so
we’re just Indyish.

MONTREAL,QC.,-

Artists all over the world are forced to compromise on their integrity to make a living. Whether you work with pencil, piano, or paint; master on vinyl, velour, or video, you know that being independent means that production is only a part of the process. But being independent doesn’t have to entail being alone, unorganized, or elitist. Indyish.com allows the independent artist to remain true to their vision, allowing them the freedom to produce uninhibited. Indyish is here for the independent artist, and we want to work with sponsors and advertisers who share our values and vision.

Indyish works for the artist, promoting their work through events and special features on the website. The brainchild of Risa Dickens, an independent artist who didn’t want to have to compromise her creativity, Indyish.com will help launch the careers of many an independent artist. While most websites that promote independent artists promote one form of art, for example photography, painting or music, at Indyish.com all forms of independent art are being promoted, in big welcoming categories like Music, Clothing, Literature and Art.

The music of Telefauna, the latest designs from complexgeometries, every issue of Worn Fashion Journal, the movies of Kidnapper Films, all are already featured and sold on the site, before the official launch even! And the difference between Indyish.com and the few other competitors- Indyish.com charges only 2% on work sold over the site.

Work on Indyish was started in Winter 2005, and will be officially launched July 5th 2006. Prior to launch we’ll be revealing the newest design reboot of the site. As the traffic on the site rises in the build up to the launch we will be adding new artists, new products, new writing, new pages all the time. Prior to launch, Indyish will feature Event Listings for Indyish Network events, writing by artists, guest bloggers, editor’s picks and reviews. And the Indyish artist group blog will add to the feeling that Indyish is more than just a website, it’s a network, a community, heck, you could even call it art.

The launch party will be an Indyish Arts Mini-Fest, August 5-6 at the Mile End Cultural Center (The Main Hall) that will feature an evening of performances by Sara Johnston- solo songstress from Bran Van 3000- and events like the 24hr Consistent Variable Project, a 24hr Music Video competition, and a Community Clothing Swap.
