Indyish.com
Press Release- Artists.
Montreal, QC.
Whether you work with pencil, piano, or paint; master on vinyl, velour, or video, you know that being independent means that production is only a part of the process.
How do you get an enthusiastic crowd to your show? How can you reach the audience that is eager for your writing? How to do you tap in to the worlds of people who would love wearing your clothes?
What if you don’t feel like “selling yourself” in the marketplace?
Luckily, being independent doesn’t have to entail being alone, unorganized or elitist.
In December 2005, Risa Dickens founded Indyish.com with website designer Elran Oded. Alongside several other local Montreal artists- complexgeometies, Worn Fashion Journal, Sara Johnston- they began to give indie artists the opportunity to stand together with their works.
While maintaining an emphasis on local, community exposure, Indyish.com creates unlimited potential with regards to its reachable audience. That means that record stores, gallery spaces, venues and cafes remain crucial locations for creative display while the mass accessibility of the web dramatically expands the value and scope of these real world sites.
At Indyish.com, we provide you with a medium as well as an audience for your art. Indyish.com creates a forum for mutual promotion, support, and development while making this process highly accessible to the internet’s wide viewership.
As a collectively authored medium, the Indyish help each other. We post our products and blog posts using the best contemporary web practices, so a post by any one artist draws exponentially increasing viewers to the shared space. For example, Indyfeed Central lets Indyish viewers subscribe to RSS feeds from select sections of the site, receiving instant updates from every Indyish category, artist, or item they choose. We’ve integrated the best blogging tools to get your work in front of reader’s eyes, and help you rank well with the search engines.
We’ll continue to work hard to direct people to your work. In exchange, we just ask that you actively participate on our website. As your work with Indyish.com develops, the growth of our site will serve to increase its strength and usefulness, both for the support of your own projects and those of other Indyish artists. Participate by posting your event flyers, by going to see art, and by writing posts about what you think of it. Participate by making great work and sharing it with our audience, and- whenever you can- by being involved in one of our wacky indyish artsy activities.
