A really really really good movie

by sarah pearson

Cheapy Tuesday’s just a day away, and what better time to promote the bestest movie I’ve seen all year. It’s called “Once,” and it’s a little bouquet of sunshine. This Independent Irish film took home the Audience Choice award at this year’s Sundance, and it’s about time more people around here know what the heck I’m talking about when I wax rhapsodic about how great it was.

It’s a simple tale about writing a song. The plot’s straightforward: Impoverished Guy busks on the streets of Dublin. Impoverished Girl takes a liking to his songs. Guy learns that Girl plays piano. They jam. They write. They recruit a few musicians, bargain for a recording studio, they make a demo. End of story.

There are few things more magical than finding good musical chemistry with someone. It’s one of the deepest unions that can exist between people. If you’re reading this blog, chances are you love stories about independent artists struggling to “make it.” Chances are, this kind of chemistry gives you goosebumps. Go see this film. Goosebumps galore.
