A look back on the November Monthly Mess

by Marilis Cardinal

After spending a day roaming the very busy Expozine (more on that later), I headed down to St-Henri to see how things were going at this month’s Monthly Mess hotspot. Although I had been there before, leaving the comfort and familiarity of Mile End was a bit of a challenge on such a cold night. Ok, maybe I was just crabby because I was sick, but if Risa who’d just gotten back from a trip the very morning and was forced to make decisions like “eat or rest” could make it there and still be upbeat and ready, then I probably should too! I was happy to see the cute red and blue streamers that the lovely Sarah Shoucri had placed along the way to the McAuslan Brewery and felt a little bit like I was participating in a treasure hunt! The treasure at the end? Tons of beer and the promise of an amazing night. From the hilarious ramblings of John Stewart, to the unbelievably adorable Kathy the clown, to the amazing art of Tristan Tondino of Macleod 9 and the good vibes of MC Goodvibes (yeah… I had to), a near constant stream of people came in to enjoy it all. The room was full within a few minutes into Lisa Gasior’s Griffontown soundscape. It was so great to see such a wide variety of people coming all that way (it’s really not that far, but still!) to support the mess and it’s artists. Here are some of the photos I got:

More photos from Monthly Mess number 9, here! If you missed this one (or not), make sure you make it to the next Monthly Mess on December 19th at Ye Ol’ Orchard! There’s still some table available at the market!

Great pictures! Was sad not to see any Choeur Maha in the pics, though; what happens to all the photos taken by the guy with the big lens?

  2. Tessa proclaims with a mighty roar:

That’s Tristan. Hey Tristan, got any photos from last night?

These photos are beautiful Marilis. I especially like the one with all the balloons resting on the ceiling while everyone watches the show.

Thanks! Tristan’s photos are on here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tristanbrand/
I didn’t get any photos of the choir, unfortunatly, the room was too full and I was at the table outside, so I listened from there and it was absolutely amazing. Tristan got some beautiful photos though!
