A Knee Jerk Post From New York City

by tristan

Merry New Year… Day 3.

There’s been a lack of posts from Indyish-Team South (NYC) these past few days. We set out with such ideals (post every day!) and intent and we haven’t come through.

Well, folks, here is a late night, bar/pint originating post from the Indyish voice that rarely posts… even when he’s back home. New York City swalllowed us whole and we shant regret it.

4 things I’ve learned and wish to relate in more detail (once you call upon me to do so via the comment form of this blog):

-There are no strangers in New York: even if you are a traveler here, you are a New Yorker to some degree. Stay here a week and you can honestly say you’ve LIVED in New York. F*** those folk who call into question your New Yorkiness.
-No one EVER calls back in New York.
-There is art Everywhere. Everywhere. Everywhere. Subversive. Blatant. Cliched. Loud. Obnoxious. Endearin. Art.
-Hey Mile End/Plateau… Williamsburg, Brooklyn gave birth to ya. Pay some respect. Come visit. Drink heavily. Find your own.

There’s moree to learn and swallow, but I’m worn out and don’t want to ramble (oops). I’ve got a plan for the next few days, and I hope to write about it.

hmm.. no strangers in ny AND no one calls back.. a seemingly contradictory but i’m sure charming narrative. i’ll take the bait and say it - do tell!

more to the point- we miss you guys! send stories!

I disagree on the point about Williamsburg giving birth to the plateau/mile end. the plateau was cool before williamsburg ever was, ergo was gentrified first…but at least it isn’t sprouting highrises of condos

If we MUST draw comparisons, I’m more tempted to say St-Henri… or Griffontown. Griffontown nowadays, where it is all empty and industrial, but probably just about to take off like mad…

Just had to be contrary because i am kinda sick of people comparing everything hip anywhere to the bloody plateau.
